bbv Software Services AG wins 2012 Microsoft Switzerland Technology Innovation Award

On the occasion of Microsoft TechDays, Microsoft Switzerland’s most important and largest technology event, bbv Software services, on Monday, November 19, 2012 was presented, for the second time, with the Microsoft Switzerland Technology Innovation Award. This award is given each year by Microsoft for Switzerland’s most innovative projects based on development technologies from Microsoft.

bbv wins this year’s award for a customer project named Selectron Fleet Diagnosis. This software solution allows engineers to perform remote diagnostics on a train, while in service, over the Internet. This is advantageous in several respects in preventive vehicle maintenance: Faster reaction times, for instance, reduce service intervention-related down times, while keeping transport capacity availability high. In addition, the possibility to earmark parts for replacement early means shorter maintenance and repair times.

Apart from this innovative feature, the cloud as a backend for a railed vehicle and the global scalability of the application is among the principal technical innovations of the project, which bbv has realized for Selectron Systems AG, a Swiss train automation specialist. Furthermore, the Web application supports every Internet-compatible end device, whether stationary or mobile, and can be operated on-premise, in infrastucture-as-a-service environments, or as a multi-user software-as-a-service.
